Yu Yu Hakusho: Season Two (Classic) [Blu-ray]

Product Description
From cutting classes to brawling in the streets, Yusuke Urameshi is not your typical role model. In fact, this kid’s nothing more than a fourteen-year-old delinquent with a talent for trouble. But in a single selfless act Yusuke dies while saving another. For such noble sacrifice he is given a second chance at life, but it’s to be a life far different than the one left behind. Now a Spirit Detective, the young man must track down demons and humans alike who desire to rule over the three realms of reality.
Survival is the order of the day as Yusuke and his allies face off against the worst that the Demon World has to offer. Locked into a competition set up by the criminal underground, more than the fighters’ lives are on the line as the Dark Tournament unfolds round by brutal round. Pain and suffering are redefined, a demon from the past is reawakened, and the mysterious masked fighter will step forth. Their situation is worse than grim as the Tournament Finals are set to begin.

another excellent release
By madmax32
Just as in my review for "Season one," I'm going to assume that if you're looking to purchase this item, then you already are a fan who is familiar with the show.
Like the last release, this one has:
-the Japanese blu ray masters
-the audio is in English 5.1 trueHD and Japanese 2.0 trueHD with English subtitles
-The Japanese actors and actresses are still NOT credited (unfortunately) and all of the Kenji in the opening & ending credits and title cards has been replaced with English text
There have been a couple of corrections that where mentioned in Justin Cook's Video blog on "Yu Yu Hakusho.com":
-The second ending animation for the English dub now starts on episode 30 where it belongs
-The Character formerly known in the English dub as "Suzuka," has now had his name altered back to "Suzuki" as it is in the original Japanese language. All lines referring to his name, as well as the character himself have been re-dubbed.
The menus this time are now orange to reflect Kuwabara and the music is an excerpt from "Time Limit," off of the official soundtrack. The only difference between this release and the last is the number of episodes per disc: "Season one" was organized 10, 10, 8+extras. This time it's 10, 9, 9+extras. Minor change but all of the episodes are accounted for so no complaints here. Enjoy!

The Dark Tournament on blu-ray
By M.
After watching Season One on blu-ray, it was a no-brainer to revisist Season Two with another frame-by-frame remaster and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 English and 2.0 Japanese dubbing, both of which are excellent in their own rights. Speaking of dubbing, the English version has indeed been redubbed to address the characer Suzuki *ahem* sorry, the beautiful Suzuki, by the Japanese pronunciation. This time around the episodes are split as such:
Disc 1: Episodes 29-38
Disc 2: Episodes 39-47
Disc 3: Episodes 48-56
--(plus additional trailers and textless opening/closing music videos)
The Dark Tournament is in full swing this season and Yusuke's team members all show amazing new abilities and powers. From the Dragon of the Darkness Flame to the resurfacing of Yoko Kurama, this season ups the ante and brings the heat.

If I were grading only the anime series, naturally it would receive a perfect score. But as to do the box set, there are things that would have made the Blu-ray better.
My largest complaint is the odd start/stop points for season 2. I know that the entire Dark Tournament saga could not fit on an entire box set without skewing the number of episodes of season 3 & 4, but they could have at least picked up at more appropriate points in the series instead of within fights. For this particular box set, if they would have set the beginning 3 episodes back and the ending point 2 episodes back, it would have made for more appropriate timing. This would set season 2 at the beginning of the Dark Tournament saga and ending before the suspenseful fight with Team Toguro.
There's not much to the packaging. I was hoping for a booklet with character bios or episode listings, but instead the episodes are listed in the inside of the front cover flap, which is little weird. There are 3-discs to this collection, making more compact than the DVD's.
The Blu-ray menu is set up similar to that of the Dragon Ball Z box sets. There are options for original subtitles or Japanese audio. The "Play All" feature has each episodes with its intro song, commentary and outro song and commentary. It would be nice if similar to the DBZ DVD sets they made a Marathon feature that skipped these parts. It's a minor inconvenience, not really a huge complaint.
Overall, this is really solid collection. The Blu-ray quality is fantastic (definitely use an HDMI cable), and there are a few noticeable changes in dialogue. I would highly recommend this to any fans of the series.
